Shepherd's Heart 2/6/25
In multiple conversations I’ve had over the past few days, many folks share how ready they are for spring! They’re longing for greenery and growth, colorful flowers, and warmer weather. In my own heart, I feel those same yearnings. I am anticipating gardening with my two children, spending evenings on our deck around the fire, and more sunny days. No doubt, all of this is coming. It is fascinating how more daylight and warmth can lift our spirits and provide inspiration.
For some, though, no matter how sunny and warm it is outside, they experience darkness because of the struggles they face. Last weekend, we offered a mental health first aid training workshop. It was a powerful day filled with learning as we identified how to notice when someone is having mental health issues, how to come alongside them, and encourage them to get connected to appropriate help. Mental health challenges arise for 1 in 5 people in a given year. As a church, we don’t want to ignore the reality that so many face – in our community and in our congregation. Hosting this mental health first aid training was another important step taken as a congregation to raise awareness, fight stigma, and join hands with those who experience the impact of mental health conditions. I am so proud of our congregation’s passion to support and care for others.
Good Shepherd is a church that cares and welcomes in such profound ways! Later this month, our support groups will begin for those who are grieving and for those who are going through a divorce. We don’t want anyone going through life’s toughest situations alone. How might you help? Join me in praying for those who attend or need these groups. We pray that God will bring light to their darkness and soothe their hurting hearts. You can also invite neighbors and friends who you know can benefit from one of our support groups. We hope to come alongside those in need and offer compassionate space for healing and hope.
Blessings,
Pastor Pamela
