Déjà vu: a feeling of having already experienced the present situation.
That would be us… now… our current life at Good Shepherd.
Just last week the Worship Center closed for significant renovation. It is the first step in our Forward building initiative to update the Good Shepherd facility to meet the exciting future that the Holy Spirit is unveiling for life and ministry at our church. Things are changing over the landscape of who is coming to know about Jesus at our church. We are experiencing a shift that is bringing more people to contemporary worship. A shift that is welcoming new younger adults and families. A shift that requires “shifting” some of our space to meet the needs of our ever-growing ministry.
The first step in that shift is to have our contemporary worship relocate for a season to the Activity Center. Our teams have been hard at work creating a space that will bring a worshipful atmosphere in the Activity Center. This past week, week one, was a walk back in time. On Reformation Sunday it will be 20 years since we had our first worship service in the Activity Center. “11:11” was a response to the growing number of people God was bringing to our church. This led to constructing a new home, the Worship Center, for this growing worship environment, that was now two services, that became known as “9:29 & 11:01”. And now the Worship Center shifts. This space will become a stellar traditional space while the existing Sanctuary will be the new home for our growing contemporary service.
Yes, we have been here before. Those who ran this race before us were at a place like this when they went from Steeple Run School to our first sight at Westmoreland Ave. There was also a major shift when we sold a constructed church building at Westmoreland Ave. and moved to a temporary home at St. Procopius Abey. Courageous people took this step as we searched for a new home that would eventually bring us to 1310 Shepherd Drive. And 1310 has had moments of growth and shifting change as we have engaged two major building projects. Now we are back to that moment where we will shift to meet the changing environment that God is leading us into. Good Shepherd has always had as a core DNA value to meet the call of God where God leads.
So if it feels like we have been here before, you would be right… and we are right where
God is leading!
