Families at Good Shepherd

Coming Up for GS Kids

Parent Resources

Looking for a way to further engage in your child's spiritual growth? We've got you covered! Join our new family text resource to receive one challenge each week to further engage with what your child is learning on Sunday mornings!

Half Nighter

Grab a friend (from Good Shepherd or not!) and complete the provided challenges at home to win awesome prizes at the Half-Nighter. Submit your photos by October 10th then get ready to celebrate with your teammate and others when we reveal the winners!

On October 17th from 6:00-11:00pm, we will fill the church with games, prizes, and even more fun challenges! Even if you don’t participate in the dares, there are plenty of opportunities to win prizes that night! This event is all about spending time together so come cheer on your friends!

Communion Instruction

We believe that the sacrament of communion is one way for us to receive God's love and grace. Anyone who confesses Jesus as Lord and Savior is welcome to receive communion at Good Shepherd. Because this is a theological moment in our worship, we offer formal instruction for children 4th grade and older to understand the personal significance of the Lord's Table.

Communion Instruction is offered annually in November. Click the link below to contact our Family Life Team about upcoming First Communion Instruction

Coming up for Good Shepherd Students

Middle School Overnight Retreat

The middle school overnight retreat this year (October 24-25) is all about coming together for a full day of fun and friendship - all while being reminded about the good news of Jesus.

Bring your friends, whether they’re from Good Shepherd or not; this event is all about having a good time together!  Anyone in 6th-8th grade is invited!

There will be opportunities for parents and high school students alike to serve, so please stay tuned to see if and how you might be able to help make this an awesome event!

Care Packages for College Students

Following services on Sunday, 11/16, we will come together in room 8 at 12:15 to send some love to the college students of Good Shepherd!

All are invited - parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, fellow students - to share some Lou Malnati's, put together packages to ship off to college campuses, and pray over our students and their families.

If you want to add your student to the list, please fill out the form below even if you can't physically attend!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Max Schiewe, who leads our Young Adult ministries; or Laura Smeltzer (brandidog1@yahoo.com) who is organizing this event.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a faith milestone for teenagers to affirm the baptismal promises from their infant baptism. While affirmation of baptism is not a sacrament, the celebration of confirmation is see as a significant moment for students to learn more about their faith and commit to their personal walk with Jesus. Confirmation at Good Shepherd is a year-long experience meant to prepare students 9th grade and older for the affirmation of their baptism.

Confirmation starts on September 21, 2025 and will continue throughout the school year with monthly meetings for students and their parent/guardian(s) on Sunday evenings from 4:30-6:00 pm, ending with the Confirmation service on April 19, 2026. There will be at-home materials for families to complete each month, as well as the Delta retreat in November, a service project, a reflection project in March, and a one-on-one meeting between each student and their small group leader.

Registration is now open for this year’s Confirmation class. Click below to sign up and find more information.

Delta Retreat

Part of our Confirmation process is our Delta Retreat, held in November. This is an incredible experience for those going through Confirmation, and you don't want to miss it!
