Laura Jean "LJ" Martin
I first came to Good Shepherd in 2009 and started serving in the high school ministry immediately. (Invitation from, who else, Janice Rubin). I joined the staff in 2013 as the High School Ministry Leader. I'm currently the First Impressions and Engagement Minister. I have my BA from the University of Northern Iowa, (go Panthers!) I studied Leisure, Youth and Human Services: Outdoor Recreation. I lived and worked in Wyoming as an outdoor instructor. I do not like cheese, I love leading people in worship, I speak whale, am a movie-goer, am in two cover bands, can't handle spicy food, long swings are my favorite part of a park, and I like listening to instrumental music. I'm very proud to be an aunt of 7 kiddos.
At Good Shepherd, you can experience the love of God in action not just in word. People of Good Shepherd care deeply and actively keep Jesus Christ the center of all things. I treasure living an authentic life together, not just on Sunday mornings. Hearing the stories of new individuals and families. I get to meet with people and hear their heart and desires and the Spirit allows me to see how this individual/family can fit right in at GS, and I love hearing the stories of new individuals and families. I like puzzles and finding the right people and ministries to introduce - and it usually turns out that the ministry needed someone exactly like this new person. That's God, orchestrating connection and purpose. I also get to work with teams whether with staff, decor, special events and I love working in teams. Membership Classes are super fun for me, putting faces to names and being a part of a family discovering what our faith family has to offer here at GS. Sorry, did you ask for just one thing?
