Shepherd's Heart 1/10/25
I love the invitation of a new year, not because it’s going to be perfect or everything I envision will come to pass, but it seems like a chance to reset… my heart and perspective, my family and our rhythms, and where I am investing my time and attention. The New Year season is one in which I lean into questions around where God is leading me, who He is shaping me to be, and how I can be more in step with the Holy Spirit.
Part of this “great reset” for me at the start of each year is to spend time in prayer, Scripture, and reflection. As I slow down, I listen for where God is showing me how to draw nearer to Him, how to love others by helping and being present, and where I can shine the light of Jesus in world that God loves so much, He sent His Son.
As a church, we get to reflect the light of Jesus in so many ways. In how we share the Gospel, participate in local and global missions, and how we come alongside our neighbors and each other to do life together or when needs arise. Our 55+ Ministry is starting the year with this intent in mind as they partner with our HOPE for Mental Health team to offer a Dementia Event next week on January 16th at 6:30pm – we want to support our congregants and neighbors who have a loved one with dementia. We are excited to have Amy Friedman speak about dementia. We will also have representatives from SamaraCare and Linden Oaks on site to answer questions and share about local resources. This type of event is in step with our vision to be there for our neighbors and be a place in which hope and light are fostered. You can REGISTER HERE. We hope you will extend the invitation to others who can benefit from such an event.
Friends, what an honor it is to begin another year as part of the Good Shepherd church family. May you find a moment to “reset” – spending time in prayer and Scripture – to discern where God is leading you… to slow down, to rest, to new attitudes, to serve and participate, to be His light. I am encouraged by what God is doing in each of our lives and how He is working in us and through us as the body of Christ.
Blessings,
Pastor Pamela
