Council Update 2/21/25

Good Afternoon Good Shepherd Friends and Family,

As part of the last series of town halls hosted by the Building Committee and Congregational Council, we heard from members of our congregation that people wanted assurance that due diligence had been done in conversations about renovating our worship spaces and then swapping the style of worship that meets in each space. We also heard from members of our congregation that people wanted us to lean more into our contract status and details. Since that meeting we have heard more questions about when our next town halls will be held, what updates are available, and much more. This update from Council is intended to address some of these concerns that were raised and also to encourage you to continue engaging in this process with us as we strive to build upon the solid foundation of work from our building team and our worship task force while honoring the foundational truth that we are a church that is congregationally led as we all follow the direction of the Holy Spirit.

At the January Council meeting, a majority of the 3.5 hours your council members gathered were spent discussing the due diligence we had already done to that point about renovating and swapping worship spaces or expanding the Worship Center. Additional information was presented at that point and spirited debates took place. That conversation resulted in conviction from Council that the focus on swapping worship spaces is what is right for Good Shepherd. Moving forward, Council has instructed the Building Committee to accomplish that in a way that is honoring to God.

Recently, conversations about our contract status and terms with Aspen Group have continued with multiple internal meetings and a discussion about the terms with Aspen. Those conversations will continue as we move forward and updates will be available with future Building Committee updates or at future Town Halls.

Our most recent meeting with Aspen did not result in the delivery of enough drawings that the Building Committee would like feedback on. As soon as those are available to us, we will schedule another set of town hall meetings. There will be a Zoom option for those who are unable to attend in person.

Please continue to reach out to Council members or members of the Building Committee with questions or concerns. We look forward to continuing to move forward, together.

Blessings,
Tyler Wojtkiewicz
