Shepherd's Heart 10/23/26

“We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

Good Shepherd Family,

One of the great joys of serving in my role is that I am provided with a deeper understanding of what happens at Good Shepherd outside of Sunday services. As you can imagine, it is substantial. I am reminded of a majestic iceberg glistening brilliantly in the Arctic sun. It’s been said that only about ten percent is visible above the surface. It’s the ninety percent below sea level and invisible to the eye that provides the solid and unshakeable foundation, making the top part possible. There are many examples of this at Good Shepherd; here are just a few. When we attend Sunday services, we are immersed in thoughtful and prayerful worship. When our kids attend children’s and youth programs, they are met with smiling faces and experience meaningful lessons. When we enter the building, we see a calm and welcoming space. But none of this just happens. It is the foundational and consistent work below the surface that ensures these ministries are thriving. And this work of our church comes to life largely because of the extraordinary pastors and staff for which we are deeply blessed.

Throughout the week, the building is bustling with Kingdom work. I say Kingdom work because I am confident all of our staff operate out of a deep desire to serve our Lord and Savior. The breadth and depth of their talents is enormous. That they have chosen to direct those talents to Good Shepherd is cause for celebration. Whether they are determining strategy for a new program, navigating the puzzle of the church-wide schedule, or hunkering down solving a computer challenge, our staff is dedicated to sharing the love of Christ. The ministries that look so effective and effortless are only possible because of the work that is supporting them. It is very difficult to adequately express our appreciation. However, one way we can do so is to present them with a gift from our congregation. This long-term tradition is affirmation of their commitment, compassion, and dedication to Good Shepherd. I invite you to contribute as you are able, as a tangible expression of our gratitude.

All of us on Church Council thank God for those who work tirelessly to share the love of Jesus Christ. Our pastors and staff are a brilliant and visible representation of His love. Let’s show them ours.
